It was there
Saturday, 28 February 2009
I've just found something I was eagerly looking for - Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak in Russian. Stumbled upon it in a bookshop while escaping from the wet and cold weather. This is the novel I've wanted to read for ages, but never saw it in Russian and didn't want to read the Latvian translation and spoil the treat of reading it in writer's language. And now it was there! So I had to get it. Unfortunately, Doctor Zhivago has to wait a little. My life is such a turmoil at the moment, but when these busy times will be over, I'll read it. Can't wait.
What a night!

No cure

This morning I wanted to check what's going on Etsy, but it happened to be the exact moment when Treasury West opened. I just couldn't resist and had to grab it, so I typed the first title what came to my mind and was off to browse the listings. Meanwhile my Swan lake treasury made to the Front page! Yay! I didn't saw this, because I was too occupied with making the new one. Hope somebody has the screenshot. Sunday mornings are good mornings for my treasuries.

Swan lake
Saturday, 14 February 2009
What color could be a treasury titled Swan lake? I wanted to make it in white and deep blue. However, one gorgeous item led to another and I ended up having the treasury in a slightly different palette. My tribute to P.Tchaikovsky:

Goldmine

Today I did some window shopping on Etsy and it was like being in a real goldmine. Here are a few of the golden finds.

Blue version
Wednesday, 11 February 2009
Today I made the blue version of the small brooch. Now I wonder why I was so worried about the size. This time I used lovely blue felt and silvery glass beads. I also added some blue beads from an old torn necklace my mom bought years ago when glass beads were difficult to get. She bought that necklace - absolutely not her style, so she never wore it - and we have been taking it out bead by bead. Have ever bought something just to tear it apart? Oh, and here is the brooch:
Small red flower brooch
Tuesday, 10 February 2009
I just made this red flower brooch using several layers of soft felt and golden or honey-colored glass beads. And let me confess that I've always admired people who can spend hours putting stitch after stitch, bead after bead. This is my little attempt in that direction. However, the brooch is rather a small for a felt brooch - 4cm (about 1.1/2 inches) in diameter. Would someone wear it? Does size matter? What do you think?
Look what I found
Sunday evening
Monday, 9 February 2009
What I did Sunday evening? Spent my time in front of a computer browsing Etsy listings, looking for some great items and making new treasury. It always strikes me how many talented artists there are.

Pears in a plastic bag
Wednesday, 4 February 2009
This photo is from my visual diary - Pieces of happyment. Some time ago in one of the courses during my art management studies we had an assignment to write down 100 things we see during the week. It was great fun and partly inspired me to do the same thing now. Only this time I'm using my camera and taking one picture every day (oh well, except weekends). This particular photo was spontaneous idea after several shots of pears in different angles. More photos on Flickr.
Front page
Sunday, 1 February 2009
While I was writing the previous post on this blog, my yellow treasury made to the Front page of Etsy. Yay!!! Front page again!
Mine and not mine
Mine
Good photography (would cover all walls)
Cups and bowls (would cover all tables and fill all cupboards)
Glass and ceramics (because of endless variations and fragility)
Weather worn wood (love that texture and color)
Hats and head wraps (would wear night and day)
Pure minimalistic shapes (less is more)
Words (written and spoken)
Notebooks and journals (would write them full)
Soft materials (to touch and cuddle)
Materials that usually don't go together (just for fun)
Not quite mine
Fur and leather (love animals too much)
Yellow and black (give me yellow and gray instead)
Mint color (it's just not mine)
Bracelets and anklets (love them, but don't wear)
Edges (give me something rounded and soft)
