Dancing beads

Thursday 29 October 2009

Dancing beads brooch is my entry for the weekly European Street Team challenge hosted by Ayca from ayawedding with the theme dance.

I had an idea about how this brooch could look like, but in the end it was more like something that developed step by step (or stitch by stitch).

My birthday was fantastic! Thank you for all your sweet greetings.

I spent some time away from my blog and Etsy and so I still need to write a few words about the last weekend. One of my treasuries made to the Etsy front page. Hooray!!! Congrats to all featured artists!

And my daisy napkin rings were featured on front page thanks to this beautiful treasury by Colette from rawartletterpress. Thank you Colette!

Gnome has lost his mittens

I've just listed Gnome's lost mittens as my entry for the European Street Team creative challenge hosted by Jealousydesign. At first I was a little perplexed about the theme gnomes and trolls, but then after some pondering on gnomes and their size it was quite obvious that new pair of tiny mittens is what I'm looking for :)

My creative space

Thursday 22 October 2009

My creative space today is the kitchen table. I knit almost anywhere, but when it comes to knitting of small pieces I love doing that at the table. Enough space, good lights and a coffee machine right next to me - what could be more creative?

By the way these tiny mittens are going to become my entry for the European Street Team challenge this week.

Walk in the woods

Sunday 18 October 2009

The weather wasn't as gloomy as it looked like in the morning, so I managed to take photos and to list my entry - Walk in the woods pin. Tiny mittens are something I've been working on for some time now and the weekly European Street Team challenge hosted by Emily from Ravenhill with the theme back to nature was the final push I needed to make the version with soft undyed wool and wooden beads.

I'm fond of aged paper and one of my favourite sources are old magazines and journals. I wouldn't feel good about destroying books for my paper needs like packaging, papier mache etc., but with magazines and journals it's different - huge variety of textures and shades, interesting articles you stumble upon and want to read... I love the process. By the way some these journals date back to 1950s.

Versailles and Rundāle

Wednesday 7 October 2009

Hello Wednesday! It's time for the weekly window shopping on Etsy! On one hand this has turned into French themed week with Paris inspired moodboard on Monday and Versailles as inspiration for the wonderful creations I feature today. On the other hand Versailles gives me a chance to tell about Rundāle palace in Latvia. It was build as residence of the duke of Courland in 18th century and has magnificent baroque and rococo interiors. Rundāle is very much like small scale Versailles and visiting the lavish residence of French kings near Paris taught me to appreciate it's beauty even more. Rundāle palace is a must-see place especially in summer when roses in its gardens are in full bloom.

And now to Versailles inspired creations on Etsy.

Autumn in Paris :)

Rough garnet by Jealoysydesign
City collection - Paris lariat by LeelaBijou
Fall breeze by eleanors
Crocheted and embellished beret from byMarianneS
French criossant in Paris studs from PetitPlat
Totally tubular bangles by miamiamia

Today I'm sleepy and coffee seems to make me even more sleepy, so I had no intention to end up with Paris themed moodboard, it just happened while I was putting together colours and shapes. Lucky me!

Sunday 4 October 2009

Purple rose brooch is my entry for the European Street Team challenge with the theme this is for you hosted by LeelaBijou who wanted us to create something inspired by another team member, something that we'd like to give to him or her as a present. My inspiration was meltemsem and her wonderful rose collection.

My creative space

Thursday 1 October 2009

It's a golden week. Golden leaves in the wind and golden paint on my fingers (I'm even beginning to think that golden nail polish would be cool). These papier mache squares are for my new necklaces and painting is the part I love as much as walking around with an idea of new designs in my head.
