Half a year ago I wrote the the first post on this blog. A small milestone, but it has been an inspiring adventure. Thank you all for spending time with me! I'm honoured to be in your company.

To celebrate this I'm giving away a brooch of your choice from my Etsy shop. To enter the giveaway all you need to do is to leave a comment under this post telling me about your favourite item from my shop (you can choose more than one and not necessarily a brooch)!

For extra entries you can spread a word about the giveaway on your blog or tweet it away. Please, comment with your name and e-mail or your Etsy username (to be sure I can contact you if you're the lucky winner).

The winner will be drawn on Monday August 10 (you can enter until 11:59 pm EET).

Good luck!

Dans les champs

This treasury evolved from yesterdays window shopping. Later in the afternoon I stumbled upon a beautiful print by aufilde and read SpendidLittleStars' blog about Becky and her sweet shop miesmama. Then I changed some items to adjust the palette and simply had to borrow the title from aufilde, because this little gallery made me think about yellow grass in fields and meadows by the end of summer.

Featured shops: elinart, prettylittlethieves, betsybensen, aCatsNest, jewelrybynatsuko, glasfaden, bunnywithatoolbelt, aufilde, panopoly, miesmama, DalenaVintage, StormsHandicrafts

Trio necklace

Tuesday, 28 July 2009

This is the new addition to my shop:

I made this necklace days ago, but didn't manage to take photos of it. When lights were fine I was busy with other things. When I was ready to shoot it was raining or almost raining and too dark. Yesterday was the lucky day when lights were perfect and I had time. Voila!

More FP

Yesterday evening one of my necklaces made to Etsy front page again! Thank you Sharon! You can see Sharon's beautiful creations in her shop - KnotOriginal.

Those who spend time on Etsy know that these two letters mean the coveted Etsy front page. My treasury made to it yesterday morning! Yay! Thank you Etsy! Just a day earlier I noticed the increase in number of visitors to my shop and, yes, my necklace made to front page the night before thanks to Sumikoshop who included it in her wonderful treasury.

And here is lovely bracelet from Sumikoshop. Thank you Evelyn!

All that jazz

Monday, 20 July 2009

A while ago I mentioned that I'm working on something new. And now here they are - these necklaces are already listed in my Etsy shop. It's a mix of vintage lace (my current obsession), recycled paper (wanted something eco friendly) and jazz (see the titles).

Happy white

Friday, 17 July 2009

Every week European Street Team is having a creative challenge hosted by one of the team members and all the time I'm playing with a thought of taking part in it someday. And now that day has come at last! Here is my entry for the challenge The colours that make you happy hosted by iragrant. White makes me happy. Especially in summer. What about you? What colour makes you happy?

P.S. See more entries here.

Etsy project embrace

Saturday, 11 July 2009

Etsy isn't just a place to buy and sell things, it's also about community and getting to know many creative people through their amazing creations and treasuries they make to promote each others work. This is how Laura's creations (lauraslocumpainted and creativelytangled) caught my eye. It's her with her son Drew in the picture above.

Laura has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has just started chemo this week. Some of her friends within Etsy community have organized a project called 'etsyprojectembrace' to raise money for cancer research and promote awareness in support of Laura.

This is what Laura would like to say:

I believe that you must play the hand you’re dealt. Six weeks ago, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. My mom died from the same. I am a huge believer in eating right, exercising, and getting regular checkups. I’ve done all those things, yet, I have cancer. WOW. That’s a life-changing situation, for sure. I just turned 46 …. (a very very young 46!) Strangely, I feel blessed. Most everyday of these 6 weeks, I’ve had a smile on my face. I’m going to play the hand I’ve been dealt in the best and most positive way I know how. I’m so fortunate my boys are older, they drive, they can do laundry and help around the house. There will always be some people in this world who have it better and some who have it worse. That’s just life.

I’ve been an Etsy addict since around this time last year, when I started doing treasuries. My sister Jenn, of
jennreese7, and my niece Kelly, of SweetnessJewelry, are also crazy about Etsy. The one thing I’ve learned in the past year is that Etsy has made it a point to have their competing sellers be friends through promoting each other in the treasuries. That sounds kind of funny, but, on the quest to have the “coveted” FP, we create treasuries, we comment on other treasuries, we “convo” people all over the world to congratulate them on their successes, and we make friends. Aren’t we supposed to be competing for sales?? Well, maybe some things are just more important than sales. From the moment I had a diagnosis, while still in the hospital, my Etsy friends were first on the scene – building treasuries just for me, wishing me well, offering advice, sending gifts, and a few have gone so far as to donate proceeds to the American Cancer Society in my honor!! Just to remind you………these are people ....I’VE NEVER MET! They have completely gone out of their way to be a friend or try to put a smile on my face. I now even talk to some of them on the phone! Now, I’m not talking 2 or 3 friends, I’m talking like 30 or 40! Some people just have checked my profile and offer words of encouragement! The first day that we learned about my chemo and all the ‘ins and outs’, the ‘goods and bads’, etc., my husband went online to search for support groups. He said to me that night, “I will never do that again, I was so depressed that I had to get off the computer” I said, in reply, “I don’t need support groups, I all need are my friends on Etsy”! They lift me up on a daily basis.

It is Sunday. Tomorrow morning, I will leave my house at 7:30 am for my first round of chemo. I will have an IV drip for about 6 hours and be home around 5:00 pm. I will do that again on Tuesday, then again on Wednesday. then again on the following Monday. I look forward to 8 months of that chemo schedule, followed by another year of some form of maintenance chemo.

There are 4 things I know for sure:
1. I am a Christian and I believe God has a plan for me.
2. I believe in myself to do the very best I can do and try to help others in the process by getting my story out there.
3. I have the most wonderful and supportive husband, family and friends.
4. Logging onto Etsy everyday and hearing from my friends will keep this smile on my face, not matter what I am going through.

You can help and give support as well. If you would like to take part in helping to raise the awareness and money for research of cancer search for the tag 'etsyprojectembrace' on Etsy and buy one of the listings that are taking part in this project. You could also donate the profits or percentage of profits from one or more of your Etsy listings to the American Cancer Society (add the tag 'etsyprojectembrace' to the listing (or listings) and mention the project and reason for it in your listing description).

If you have questions and ideas how to support this project or need further information don't hesitate to contact Kim aka slinkymalinkicat or Amy aka ThePeachTree.

Boxes, boxes

Thursday, 9 July 2009

This week I'm window shopping for boxes on Etsy. Boxes for organizing, keeping, hiding... I'm fond of both their utilitarian and aesthetic value. There's always place for one more box in your life and here are some you might consider.

The rope dancer

Monday, 6 July 2009

You won't find a rope dancer in this treasury, but it's the first association what comes to my mind when I think about balance. Hence the title. Inspired by the first row of items and their round shapes (thank you afiori, softspoken and Meetalls!). The rest was easy and fun.

Every time I go to a stony beach I end up jingling pebbles in my pocket. I'm addicted to endlessness of shapes and colours and I'm glad there are many Etsy artists who share my addiction. After short midsummer break I'm window shopping again - and you guessed right! - this time for pebbles. Enjoy!
